This comprehensive project involved refurbishing an existing bungalow to create an eco-friendly new build. While retaining elements of the original layout, the bungalow was substantially demolished and reconfigured to include an expansive open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area suitable for a large family. The redesign yielded six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, by reconfiguring interior walls, thereby making more efficient use of space than the initial plan. This refurbishment also included the addition of a large study, playroom, utility pantry, cinema room, and a gym room with glass walls overlooking the garden. New features were added to enhance the property’s appeal and functionality.
The project presented numerous challenges, including coordinating various trades throughout the build. A key aspect was integrating solar panels into the room tiles, ensuring they were both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Protection of a large oak tree at the front of the property was also a priority. Additionally, significant effort was required to adjust the levels at the back of the garden to align with the existing property. The client’s specific requirements, such as the creation of a coffered ceiling in the main kitchen area, demanded trial and error with different coving styles, eventually accomplished with skilled plasterers and joiners.
The outcome of this project is a modern, eco-friendly family home with ample living space and a high specification finish. The ground floor and second floor feature tiled flooring with underfloor heating. Incorporating eco-friendly elements like solar panels and a Niko smart home system, the property stands as a testament to sustainable and intelligent design. Work is ongoing to complete the landscaping, driveway, electric gates, and walls, further enhancing the property’s appeal and functionality.
