Home Extension

The Project.

Single storey residential extension.

The Challenge.

Partial removal of ground floor
Propping of first floor during build and underpinning works

The Radleys continued to live in the property throughout the construction work. Therefore, security, safety and access issues were of paramount importance, along with ensuring that there was no interruption to essential services in and on the property. This incurred much greater risk than would normally be present, so the Radleys employed an independent structural engineer to oversee matters and report back to them.

The Results.

The Radleys’ engineer was impressed with the professionalism and competence of the Midas team, and the smoothness with which the whole project was executed given the heightened risk of the underpinning and partial floor removal while the property was still occupied. Furthermore, considering that the Radleys were employed full-time (and largely inaccessible during the day), Midas were still able to communicate effectively with the family and minor snagging issues were resolved quickly and in a reasonable timeframe.

“We initially approached Midas Construction because they were recommended to us by a neighbour, for whom they had built a two-storey extension a few years ago. We were also reassured by Midas’ membership of the FMB Masterbond and Trustmark schemes. We used an architect and tendered our single storey extension and as part of the process had a tender review meeting with Midas before deciding to award the contract to them. Midas clearly had a good grasp of the logistical problems involved and had given careful thought to programme and access.”
